ESL Classes:

Beginner-level classes are offered throughout the year.  Students are instructed in grammar, vocabulary, workplace skills, social language, civics and culture concepts, and critical thinking skills, with equal focus places on speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills-building.  CASAS Appraisal tests are administered monthly to prospective students to determine their ESL level prior to beginning a course.
Starting May 14th, 2013
Tuesday & Thursday from 9:00a – 11:00a or 6:30p – 8:30p for 15 weeks

Digital Connectors - Computer Classes:
Beginner-level classes offered throughout the year.  Students are instructed in the basics of computer care, Microsoft Word, Internet searches, Social Media (Skype, Facebook), e-mail, and typing skills.

Starting April 27th, 2013

Saturdays from 9am - 12pm for 10 weeks

GED Preparation Classes-English and Spanish
The Hispanic Center offers GED prep classes in English and Spanish for individuals who are 16 years and older. All interested students must fill out an application at the reception desk of the Hispanic Center. For more information please contact Jaenell Ott at jott@hispanic-center.org.

Spanish classes offered by El Centro Translations at the Hispanic Center

Cost: $375 - Includes Spanish book, manual, handouts and testing supplies.

Fiesta Fridays
Medical Month: Learn about different careers in the medical field from: Registered nurse to doctor to x-rau technician! Each Friday will focus on a different field.
Girls Inc.
A small group for girls led by the YWCA to build self-esteem, self-confidence, and healthy relationships. This is new session that starts January 21st and will be every Monday!
Know How 2 Go (KH2G) Academy
SPLs are required to attend the KH2G workshops at the Grand Rapids Community Foundation (185 Oakes St SW). Snacks are provided and bus passes as needed.
Parent Meetings
Each month SOL and Ferris cohost Community Parent Meetings in English and Spanish at César E. Chávez Ele-mentary to discuss college preparation, all parents are welcome to attend. Light refreshments provided.
Safe Dates
Safe Dates is a workshop for young males to learn how to safely date and create healthy relationships. This is a new session that starts January 21st and will be every Monday!
SOL After-School Tutoring
Head over to the Center after school for snacks, access to computers, and homework help from college volun-teers. Tutoring will be from 3:30pm-5:30pm.

SOL Information Sessions
SOL Info sessions are held every Wednesday at 1:30pm and 3:30pm. Youth NOT enrolled in school will meet with Ra-chel at 1:30pm and youth in school will meet at 3:30pm with Ricardo or Mario . No RSVP needed.
