Mental health stigma is a significant issue the Latinx community as they may be reluctant to seek mental health services due to factors such as fear of discrimination, concerns about confidentiality, or a belief that mental health problems are a sign of weakness.
To address these issues, we have partnered with Services of Hope to provide a license bilingual therapist at the Hispanic Center that offers free sessions to those without insurance. It is important to ensure that mental health services are accessible and culturally responsive to the needs of the Latinx community.
Ana is at the Hispanic Center every Wednesday and Friday from 9am-5pm. If you are interested in booking an appointment with Ana, please contact Alva at 616.246.0570.
At the Hispanic Center we host Mental Health Workshops called, It’s Time to Start Taking Care of your Mental Health.
It is essential to increase awareness and understanding of mental health disorders in the Latinx community. Education programs can help dispel myths and misconceptions about mental health and encourage individuals to seek help when needed. In partnership with Services of Hope a certified bi-lingual therapist leads the workshops and are provided through community organizations and schools.
Our next Mental Health Workshop will be on April 19th from 5:30-6:30pm at the Hispanic Center of Western Michigan. The workshop will be discussing ways on how to cope with stress, how to effectively communicate with your children, and ways your family can be happy.
The workshop is free and open to the public. If you have any questions regarding our mental health workshops, please call Alexandra at 616.742.0213.
This will help focus on something that is manageable and promote a sense of accomplishment.
