The staff at the Hispanic Center of Western Michigan understands that culturally, we have to be personal in our approach & that in order to rebuild trust, it is a one-on-one process. As we mentioned in an open letter to our community, we have heard your comments and we are 100% committed to improving the lives of Latinos in West Michigan – WHY? Because we too are Latinos who have had, at one point in our lives, someone commit to our betterment & quality of life.
It is a critical time in the lives of Latinos, we feel a responsibility now more than ever, to make sure Latino families feel welcomed, safe, and celebrated among neighbors & that is why we want to create more events that are culturally unifying and build long lasting connections.
In 2017, Grand Valley State University’s Affinity Group graciously hosted La Gran Posada. This event was able to bring over 100 people to the second floor of our building. Families gathered together to sing Christmas carols in Spanish, hear the Posadas holiday tale, share food, break piñatas, & share in holiday traditions.
This year, the HCWM has asked for permission to take over event and would like to invite YOU ALL once again to join us for this joyous occasion!
On December 15, we are opening our doors to the community to take a tour of our building & get to know our staff. We want to share with you what we are up to & more importantly we want to hear from you!
We are also going to be giving away 50 Christmas trees to families who need a little extra Christmas cheer this season & we are going to have music, piñatas, lots of tamales, & much much more!
WON’T YOU JOIN US THIS DECEMBER!? There will be more information as the date approaches, but in the meantime, we hope you mark this event in your calendars!
